What is ReCell Skin Reconstruction?

ReCell Spray on Skin involves having a biopsy to harvest your own cells, which are made into a solution that can be sprayed onto the skin. It is essentially a process of encouraging new skin growth, making it perfect for scars and burn treatment.

ReCell is used to regenerate, restore and rejuvenate areas of damaged, scarred or discolored skin causing cells to multiply so that you are left with healthy, new skin.

What is ReCell used for?

ReCell Spray-on Skin is used to improve the appearance of skin that is marked by burns or scarring, pigmented from resurfacing treatments, or for those that have Vitiligo. This makes it perfect for acne scar treatment, burn scar treatments and hypopigmentation treatment. Our experienced surgeons will discuss your requirements in your consultation, so that we can assess if this treatment is for you, whether that be to improve the appearance of acne marks, scar treatment or vitiligo treatment.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

ReCell has been successfully used to improve the skin of patients with; acne scars (face or body acne), stable Vitiligo, burn scars, surgery scars and body pigmentation from resurfacing treatments such as chemical peels and laser treatments. The great thing about ReCell is how versatile it is, and you can be confident our experienced surgeons will always try their best to work towards your end goal.

What happens during the procedure?

A local anaesthetic is applied so that a biopsy can be taken from your skin (about the size of a postage stamp). The skin sample is placed into a processing unit that separates the healthy growing skin cells which are then suspended in a liquid. The area to be treated is prepared using dermabrasion or a laser to remove the affected part of your skin. The cell suspension is then sprayed over the prepared area and it is covered in a non-adhesive dressing to prevent infection.

What are the side effects or risks?

With any procedure there are side effects and risks to consider. See below some of the possible side effects of Recell Skin Reconstruction.

  • Pain
  • Discomfort
  • Scarring
  • Dissatisfaction with your results if expectations are too high

One of the key benefits with this treatment is the lack of side effects for the majority of patients. This is due the the use of natural resources within this skin reconstruction treatment.

What results can I typically expect?

ReCell is not a quick-fix solution and it can takes months and sometimes years to get the final result. Results are also dependent on the size and condition of the area being treated. You will need to set realistic expectations with your surgeon.

Before your procedure

You will meet with your surgeon and patient coordinator before your surgery to work out if the procedure is suitable for you and the risks and possible complications. The surgeon will confirm what you can expect from the procedure and once you feel you are ready, you can sign a patient consent form.

You will then have a pre-operative assessment between 2-5 weeks before your surgery. A doctor or a senior nurse will review your medical history, take your measurements (height, weight, BMI) and perform a blood and MRSA test to ensure you are fit for surgery.

At Zenith Cosmetic Clinics, our patients are at the heart of everything we do. Having a surgical procedure is an extremely personal choice and only you can make the decision about having the operation. Please take away all the information we give you and spend time going through it. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask us for advice - we want you to be happy with your choice.

It is important that you stop smoking at least four weeks before your surgery and four weeks afterwards.

ReCell Skin Aftercare

In most cases normal routines can be maintained after your Recel treatment, as long as care is taken not to compromise the treated area. You will have a dressing and bandages over the treated area for at least a couple of weeks as the skin heals.

How long do recell results last?

Recell is a one off treatment, that offers permanent improvement to tissue and scarring.

How much does recell cost?

Our recell skin construction treatment starts from £3975, but the specific cost will be dependent on the nature of your problem, and the results you want to achieve.
